Nice try, but no sale. The left won't buy Ron Paul because he's a Republican. And the right won't buy Ron Paul because he isn't one. The right wants three basic things in a Presidential candidate: 1. Someone who will fight back in the war on militant islam. 2. Someone who will defend our borders. 3. Someone who will nominate sensible, non-activist judges. And if they can get that in someone that doesn't mangle syntax and has a relatively clean personal life, well, that's just gravy.
