As a former staffer to several national and statewide elected people ... the one thing conveyed to us from intern on up to chief of staff is that the official and his / her closest confidante need to meet secretly while we worked. And that must only be distasteful political strategy discussions to counter any opponents outrageous tactics.

While I truly thank Mr. Spitzer for so much great work in the past ...

One thing is clear, Mr. Dopp would only do what he did with Mr. Spitzer's approval.

If you doubt this, just ask anyone you know who has ever worked for any elected person.
