Israel's Time of Deja Vu
in response to reader comment: Why the truce may be a bad idea for Israel

Submitted by Dave Levi, Nov 30, 2006 10:18

At last count, Israel, going back to 1948 has offered the Palestinians a state 10 times. The response in varying degrees has been, "No peace, no negotiation and no compromse". Nothing has changed since these words in 1967 after the Arab world's resounding defeat. The Arabs now demand the so-called right of return (not really a right), and Israeli borders based on the old 67 pre-war lines. They will accept nothing short. Hamas a criminal mafia type organization, goes further, as does Hezbollah. They want it all, all of Israel. They say it time and time again. Olmert and those surrounding him, still believe that Arab and Jew can live together, in peace, fellowship and brotherhood., breaking break together, two states side by side, sort of like Brooklyn and Queens. They are, despite everything that has occurred these past years, still in denial about Arab goals. And that's the problem with Israel. Sure, a cease fire among all Palestinian groups, on the West Bank/Gaza Strip, would be nice. But it's all about allowing them time to regroup, arm themselves for the final Jihad against the Jewish state. Even if there are two states, Iran still looms out there, and Hezbollah. Just today, there are calls from Hezbollah for Lebanese to protest by the millions in the streets, and bring down the government (pro-West). That done, Hezbollah knows it will control the army, the border with Israel, and future events. This is just the beginning of Israel's problems if another Arab state is created. Is there an anwer, yes: the territoreis being autonomous or made part of the real Palestine (historically), Jordan.
