Initial iPhone Excitement Is Put on Hold

What a goofy story. Why measure activations in the first 30 hours? Those of us who bought one on the first day (and no, I didn't stand in line, nor am I a "fanboy") know it was AT&T who screwed up that time period. They misplanned so badly that literally thousands of people were stuck in the "six minute" activation process for 24 hours or longer.

Me, I'd like to see the figures for the first whole week. I bet at least as many were activated in the second 30 hours as the first (which would make 300K or so... not shabby for five days on the market). Sprint is sure falling all over themselves to find out what it would take to get me back.

You have to laugh when you see doommongers shrieking "Apple fell 6%" or whatever... take a look at that stock over the past six months. In January it was steady in the low 80s. As I write this, it's at 137.26 (that's up 2.37 from yesterday). I wish I'd bought a parcel a year ago!

Folks who love their Blackberries or Treos are welcome to keep on loving them, as far as I'm concerned. I don't want my iPhone to pick up my corporate mail (even though it can)--I just want it to check my personal mail, tell me when traffic is bad, text my kid, play my music, and let me surf the web from pretty much anywhere in my personal stomping grounds (Austin is a wi-fi friendly city). It does that in a wonderful way. Why the sour grapes? I hope Apple AND RMI AND Palm all have successful cellphones (though I have my doubts about Palm's chances :-)
