Safety Signs Fail To Serve Immigrants
in response to reader comment: English IS a second language

With a rotator cuff problem, I am late to be able to respond to Alicia Colon's great column..so to the point of what, perhaps it started with good intentions, it is time to stop this insane multicultural language that divides the entire country.

I have discovered that the Spanish that Mexicans speak are different than the Castilian Spanish I was taught in High School. I can pick up on some words but meeting more and more Spanish people working in Walmart or Target without the knowledge of English, there always has to be one American nearby to explain what we mean when we ask a question.

How will those that do not learn English be able to take advantage of the opportunity to climb the ladder to earn more and use their potential within themselves yet held back by language?

Is this not why we have to import immigrants from India who will earn more money because they already speak English and earn more, live better? I make a call to aol or Time Warner or Cox and the person that answers is from Banglidesh or India or some other foreign country not our own.

Why would people like Jose Serano or other representatives of Spanish or Russian constituents not want the people in their district to continue to speak other languages instead of English?

To make them dependent on the representative and vote for them again is the only reason that I can think of.
