CUNY Attempts To Boost Its Competitive Status in City

It is important to have admission standards, as well as graduation standards, to maintain the quality of higher education institutions, including public ones with a commitment to all high school graduates, in order to support the idea and the practice of high standards within higher education and to demand proportionately high standards of schools and students preparing for it. Stressing only help to weaker students weakens standards; stressing only higher standards neglects them. Education must be both discriminating and universal. CUNY must be worthy of aspiration as well as helpful to those unable to achieve them.
