Education Dept. Criticized Over Special Ed. Checks
in response to reader comment: Thank you!

While my heart goes out to Julie McLaughlin and all parents of children with disabilities in similar situations, and a full and fair investigation should be welcomed by all, on a side note, I must warn people about trusting the information on the website she mentioned, skoolwatch.tripod.com. Although it boasts of getting information directly from people who work at or have worked in that office, I can tell you from experience, that is not true. I used to work in that office, and this website never contacted me, yet used my name without my knowledge or permission, in an effort to couch some unsubstantiated speculations about me in question format, and I would like to set the record straight. I did not, nor would I EVER confiscate documents from an office I worked in, and I resent the insinuation; that is obviously an investigator's job, not an employee's job. Second, it is ludicrous to suggest that I left the office "in tears." I am a professional attorney and to suggest such a thing because I am a woman is an insult to me and my profession (I doubt this comment would have been suggested in connection to any of the male attorneys who have left the office). In fact, to the contrary, I recall being very happy the day I left the office. It is a shame that this website has reverted to using the names of attorneys in an effort to make wild uncorroborated guesses at what might have happened at this office, when the facts can and should easily speak for themselves. Such immature attempts at "journalism" by attempting to sensationalize the situation in wild hypotheticals do no one any favors, and only end up casting doubt upon the very serious nature of the real facts and statistics at issue here, which of course deserve a full and fair investigation. I certainly hope the authors of this website learn what responsible reporting is, and abide by those basic journalistic rules of integrity in the future.
