There is already a program of volunteers who help the Parks Department care for street trees. Training is provided by the non-profit Trees New York, a group not mentioned in your article. Citizen Pruners (I am one) are officially certified by the Parks Department to do basic tree maintenance such as removing damaged limbs and low-hanging branches that are dangerous to passersby. We water trees and report heavily damaged and dead trees to the borough forestry offices. We are not enough to care for the trees we have now. How will all the new trees be maintained?
