Taiwan was ceded permanenty to Japan by Ching Dynasty in 1895. In 1951, Japan "renounces all right, title and claim to Taiwan" in San Francisco Peace Treaty signed by 48 U.N. member nations. Neither People's Republic of China nor Republic of China was among these signatory nations.
To date, Taiwan is ruled by a national government elected democratically by Taiwanese. China never speaks for Taiwan. The so-called "one-China policy" is a 180 degree deviation from this reality. To say Taiwan as a province of Taiwan is like to say the U.S. as a territoy of the U.K.
The U.N. without admitting Taiwan is a body without universality. The WHO without including 23 millions Taiwanese has a risk to world health. The U.N. and the WHO should admit Taiwan and uphold the U.N. principle of self-determination. Charles Hong, Columbus, Ohio
