Rep. Rangel and Senator Kerry's disparaging comments with regard to soldiers are JUST WRONG.
Today's soldiers are among the most intelligent and capable individuals in our society. As pointed out in numerous articles and statistical studies, today's soldier is well above the average in education and intellect.
Rangel and Kerry see their world through a distorted 1960's lens which views the military as filled with disadvantaged, non-white, lower economic class, uneducated, and non intellectual types. Their perverted view was wrong in Viet Nam and is even more incorrect today. The average Viet Nam Vet attained a higher level of education than his draft dodging brother, more became professionals, and they were less likely to have a police record or drug problem than non-serving members of their generation.
I am presently on my fourth Combat tour in Afghanistan with U.S. Army Special Forces, with trips to Iraq in between. I am 56 years of age and hold a Doctorate and BS degree. After 911, at the age of 51 with a six figure private practice I volunteered to re-enter the military. After several waivers one for age another that required me to waive my VA disability (from Viet Nam) I gained entrance into the U.S. Army. After a series of schools and Branch transfers I again found myself in Special Operations where I had spent my career as a U.S. Marine 1967-1974. I don't make anywhere near the money that I did in private practice but find it reward enough to be accepted by the brave young soldiers that I have the PRIVELEDGE to serve with, I only wish that my body were younger and stronger that I might continue my service for many more years.
I am not alone there are many my age that are back again after successful civilian careers, vs. Rangel and Kerry who contribute nothing, make high salaries for doing nothing, and disparage these courageous men and women with whom I have the honor of serving.
I will not forget.
I will not falter.
I will not fail.
