Upper East Side Politicians Unite To Fight Bike Lane

Submitted by thfs, Aug 3, 2007 10:08

First of all, painting a bike lane on the play street was only one of the options presented by DOT to the Community Board. The main option was to not mark the playstreet at all. And the proposal is to paint an eastbound bike lane on 90th street (downhill) and an westbound uphill bike lane on 91st street, which would actually divert the faster downhill riders onto another street.

Bike riders are going to be on the playstreet whether there is a bike lane or not (it is a recommended cycling route), so shouldn't the City have facilities to acommodate them?
