Fallen New York Soldier Remembered

Submitted by Thomas A. Pallozzi Haynes, Dec 1, 2006 09:55

My wife and I had the honor and pleasure of having the best four and half hour dinner Wednesday evening and although the food was great, the company we were in gave us such a great insight to Schuyler's life and some true insight to who the soldiers were and are that served with him. Sophy and I truly understand why Schuyler would want to walk amongst these soldiers. I would want to serve with these great human beings and wish everyone would have the opportunity to see and hear what our experience with the men that came from the 1st Cav Ft. Hood, Texas. I can tell you that they truly deserve the title of being America's First Team.

While we lost a family member that was near and dear to us, Sophy and I truly feel we have gained many new family relationships in the military family. At the same time, the 1st CAV, 1-12 Scouts, also many have lost a brother, but they now have many, many people here in NY, NJ, and PA that believe in them, and take great pride knowing what great people we have representing our country and trying to help others have the basic freedoms for which many of us take for granted each and every day.

In the spirit of my brother-in-law, Schuyler B. Haynes, we would greatly appreciate if people would reach out to our soldiers either in the 1st Cav which is very near and dear to our hearts or any other military group and send them the basic comforts of home. Items they need are two-ply toilet paper, moistened handi-wipes, teeshirts and clothing for soldiers that are injured in combat and have their clothes cut off. Snacks, non-perishable food items are also great, and even just a quick note to a unit thanking them for doing the great job they do everyday. Our country and freedoms are protected each and everyday by these great individuals.

Thank you again 1st Cav, the 1-12 Scouts, and all the other great soldiers that are our great protectors.
