Conservative and libertarian (I am one) objection to campaign fiance reform is rubbish. Municipal, state and federal budgets grow out of proportion with inflation and as a percentage of GDP every year because greedy, self-interested defense-contractor PAC's, public employee's unions and "Alaska-Bridge -to-Nowhere" builders have direct line access to the prostitutes in the Senate and House. Meanwhile, Joe and Jane Sixpack are lucky to get a 2 second photo-op with the silver-haired, tooth bleached, 1 wife and 2 girlfriends, wind-bag millionaire from their district.
The folks want our troops to be well supplied, well staffed and protected on the battle-field. Instead we pump billions into weapons deisgned to fight an enemy that doesn't exist while our young heros die needlessly when their unarmoured HUMVEE's blow up.
The folks in NY want schools that deliver results for the astronomical property taxes they pay. Instead we have lazy 9am-3pm teachers who ask for more money the worse they do (and they only work 9 months out of the year!).
Look at what the average person wants on any issue and look at what we have. It's almost always an opposite picture of wants vs. reality. Millions of Americans' 1st amendment rights are "abridged" everyday and you people are worried about some billionaire's ability to pump $20 million into a campaign under the phony guise of issue-advocacy. Free speech has been limited for special and emergency reasons many times and no, the Republic did not crumble.
