I believe that Mr. Thompson strategy is brilliant here. Why? First off this is not an usual election. Who has ever heard of campaigning beginning January 07, two years before the election? Thompson smart because all the candidates will by the beginning of 08 have nothing new to say or will have flipped flopped so many times that the American public will be ready for someone with new ideas. People are not really paying attention this far out of the election. So for Thompson to wait until after September 07 like possibly Newt Gingrich is brilliant because he will come into the Republican primaries as a breath of fresh air. Secondly, he is smart to wait because after September, he will have a better idea how to address the Iraq issue. Remember General Paetraeus gives his report here & the poles are rising in support of the war. If Paetraeus gives a positive report then watch the Dems have a heartattack & the Reps who've been questioning the war get the spin cycle on overdrive. Yes, Thompson has supported the war but also patient to see what our generals advise. Remember, the generals are the guys fighting the war not the politicians. As history shows politicians have a tendency to lose wars. But lastly, Thompson can claim outsider statis because he unlike these other Senators have made politics their lifes work, set out to serve only a limited term then left. I do believe he has America's interest at heart first and foremost unlike others on both sides of the aisle who want power & glory. He is true public servant & that is very much like another actor, Ronald Reagan. For my two cents worth as sociologist who also studies history this is why I the Thompson's strategy is brilliant in waiting until September. But I'll let others who know better than me, the so called "experts," decide & debate.
