Sounds like Dorine's a little defensive. First of all, there are candidates on both sides who aren't Senators; perhaps you've heard that Rudy G. served as New York mayor?
Secondly, Fred himself is an ex-Senator, and like lots of Senators, he's a lawyer whose current anti-Washington non-campaign is a product of Washington insiders. If you have some evidence that Fred is where he is because of the grassroots we'd all love to see it.
It's news to me that the candidates are campaigning on the public's dime. That would be an improvement if they were, however. Then they might be more accountable to the public than they are. Right now, it's clear that Fred will be accountable to the Republican power elite that's behind him, a classic "special interest" group if there ever was one.
If you want to talk about Senators shafting the public we can start with your boy Freddie the Freeloader. We don't need any lollygagging loafers running this country, thanks very much. Get ready to have your clocked cleaned by Giuliani--assuming that Fred actually runs, that is.
