McCain Bids for an Issue on Property

Submitted by Richard Cooper, Aug 7, 2007 23:11

In 2000, as Nassau County, NY Libertarian Party chair, I worked with Ron Paul's office on the case of St. Luke's Pentecostal Church which lost its land and building to the Town of North Hempstead. In response to our efforts, Ron Paul introduced legislation to bar the use of federal funds to seize houses of worship.

The legislation passed the House of Representatives but the bill it was attached to failed in the Senate.

A few years later, Hillary Clinton was present at the ceremony marking groundbreaking for the project which took the church's land.
