Lifting Up a Continent

The combined effect of the Marshall Plan and enlightened German economic policy was truly stupendous. A bombed out Germany recovered and prospered at a much faster pace than the war's victors, who had suffered considerably less damage. In 1991 a similiar situation arose in Eastern Europe.A half of a continent, "bombed out " by "socialism" enforced by Russia, has started to recover. The recovery appears to be slower than in the West in 1948. The main culprit is the mental inheritance left by the Russian "socialists". It affects even those countries where the governments are nominally Conservative. Having lived through both periods in the lands affected, I can only thank providence for Adenauer"s one vote victory over the socialists in the Bundestag. The prosperity created by his governments policies is helping the East recover today, even though few appreciate what mekes today"s German generosity possible. Hats off to George AND Konrad!
