Mr. Halkin, a couple of points:

- Ataturk's legacy will live as long as the Republic is alive. Having a mildly Islamist winning a general election is not due to the Turks' abandonement of secularism; it is simply that the current governement has done a good job and that the opposition is utterly lame...

- There is a lot of "donme" (converted Jew) blood in the upper middle and upper classes of Turkish society. What you are claiming is very credible in the general scheme of things. Ataturk didn't have children and his diaries are sitting with his sister's offspring and are sealed shut...

- Claiming that the regional ethnic cleansing of Armenians - some of whom have sided with the advancing Russians and killed Muslims - as genocide is very insulting to Jews and other victims of true genocide. They are very sad events but such events happen in wars where there is collaboration with the enemy. Japanese were forcibly interned during the 2nd World War in the US yet none had sided with the enemy...
