Excellent article. If you have read William Manchester's great biography of Churchill, Furst's novels flesh it out. Through Furst's extraordinary prose, you experience what the world of the Appeasement years looked like, felt like, even tasted like. And the political debates so eerily echo our own. "Why get involved in a small country far away?" "If they really want is the Jews, why not just give them the Jews?" "Who are we to criticize them? Are we perfect?" "Forget it, let's go get laid." Prof. G. Leonard, San Francisco State
