your review and the shows, pay a long overdue and well deserved tribute to saul steinberg and his work...the morgan library and museum, and the museum of the city of ny should be commended for these fantastic shows...one of the best art shows of the year in ny...they have done a fantastic job in coordinating the shows of what is actually a small slice of steinberg's incredible prolific career...and the text of the catalog by joel smith is first rate,as are the unusually good wall descriptions accompanying the shows...steinberg was was an amazing sophisticated social critic and his ability to perceive the nuances in ordinary things and events that often goes unnoticed by most of us, was uncanny...anyone seeing these shows of his works ,we can easily recognize his genius...he translated his perceptions in an astute visual and psychological manner that were very accessible...i wonder what the 'new yorker' would have been like without steinbergs branding...and new york itself, might have been different!
