Blanco May Bring More Mexican Interest to MLS

Submitted by David De Ita, Aug 10, 2007 09:25

I have to say, whoever wrote this article knows very little about football. As a fan of MLS and the Mexican Liga I must say that this article flirts closely with absurdity. The American league is a growing one, but the established league in Mexico is far superior in tradition, fan support, and most importantly the quality and pace of play. To say that the MLS is "past-paced" is absurd. The main reason the ball travels up and down the pitch at the rate at which it does is because the quality of playing the ball into feet is lacking. So therefore the less refined MLS style is typically to boot the ball up the field and chase it, which by the way, rarely solidifies into a completed transaction. It is usually taken by the opponents back line. I will provide the reasoning for a lack of Mexican interest. It is the lack of money teams are willing to spend on young talent and until recently the cap that the vast majority of Mexican starts salaries exceeds. Now you might say; how is that Mexican players make more money than Americans? Well its simple, go to a Mexican match and you will be joined by a rousing audience of 45,000+ for even the teams at the bottom of the table. Now lets go across the ole Rio Bravo and check out an MLS game between the champs, Houston Dynamo and oh lets say Dallas FC. Keep in mind these are two teams at the top of the tables. Your lucky if you see 15,000 fans. So there's the money and there's the exposed ridiculousness of this article.
