Interest income from private activity bonds, such as ball park construction or industrial park construction, are treated as non-taxable for the regular tax system; HOWEVER, for purposes of the Alternative Minimum Tax they are fully taxable. Since many upper income folks are subject to the AMT, there is not as large a revenue loss to the federal government as stated here.
