Nice way to look like a loss for guliani as a plus for him. The fact was he had no chance to he bowed out. W was not able to scare away to two top rivals in 99. Romney managed to do that with the most effective, deep, and expansive orgnanization Iowa has ever seen.

secondly, taking iowa out of the process is good if you are not a conservative. for those of us who are, which make up the bulk of the parties strength (in my opinion), it is not a good thing. furthermore, it is a little arrogant to think that just because guliani skips it it makes it irrelevant. Guliani is popular but not the standard bearer or savior of the republican party. I would bet my dog that Thompson attempts to compete in Iowa which you seem to assume he won't in your analysis. It is clear from your assumptions that you are a Rudy supporter.

Lastly, it is a mistake to think you can ignore the first two states and win. Guliani's strategy has never worked. to be so confident that iowa is no longer important is naive and hopeful for a rudy supporter at best. Don't underestimate the momentum one can get in just weeks. If Romney were to maintain his substantial lead in iowa and new hampshire, he is also leadin gin michigan and nevada as well, it is hard to belive that large wins in all those states would not have a mountain slide effect and propel him into a national standing that would compete if not overcome guliani. as for fred. if he doesn't gain traction in the early states, i think he has no chance. mccain, can't win. it is between romney and his early state strategy and guliani.

if mitt and thompson have to duke it out for the same constiuency, then guliani may just avoid scrutiny and attention and skirt his way to the nomination. i like guliani, but mitt has everything he has, plus social conservatism that I think is important. he will appoint conservative jsustice where guliani, if his record means anything, will not.
