Spitzer Shifts to Silence on Scandal

Submitted by Moishe Perl, Aug 13, 2007 23:14

Although I must admit to being critical of Mr. Spitzer in his run for Governor and indeed did not vote for him, I strongly feel it is time to move on.

I believe that the Governor did not abuse his power while attempting to discredit Mr. Bruno. His employees abviously did, but did not break any law as far as we know. Are we surpised that politicians have it in for each other? I'm certainly not. Being in the minority as a downstate Repulican, I certainly wish Bruno had been found to be doing what we all suspect every politician does. We certainly would be better served by Republicans who will help build our party which is floundering. 40% of New Yorkers voted for President Bush yet we lost the Governorship and will almost certainly lose the Mayor's office as well. When the highest ranking Republican is Bruno, we need to realize that we will soon lose any control as a party and it can only be blamed on his lack of leadership.

Most importantly, we must let the Governor get back to what promises to be a strong effort at economic growth for the state. Avi Schick, whom I personally know, is doing a wonderful job leading downstate economic growth and with an economy that could face a disaster with the ongoing mortgage crises, of which I also know all too well, it is imperative that his good work continue without distraction.
