"The vision is an odd one for a national Republican candidate these days." Boy, Mr. Gitell, did you ever hit that nail on the head. The frontrunners are clearly not the Republicans old. Instead of pushing small government, they endorse the biggest spending spree in history. Instead of fiscal responsibility, they pile on debt like there's no tomorrow (unfortunately for our children, there is). Instead of getting us out of wars (Korea, Vietnam) they threaten anyone who does not obey "our rules," mostly related to oil and banking, and scarcely related, if at all, to terrorism. These "Republicans" and most of their closer-than-you-want-to-know "Democrats" are in lockstep with relieving us of our freedoms, all in the name of safety, because the communists, er... I mean the terrorists are coming to get us.
You're so right, Mr. Gitell, the national Republican candidate "these days" looks nothing like Robert Taft, Barry Goldwater, or even Ronald Reagan. He looks much more like... well, I won't say it. These men and women keep saying their #1 obligation is keep us safe. Wrong. Their #1 obligation, in the words of the oath of office as quoted verbatim from the United States Constitution is to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Yet they lay waste to that very document. I for one am not afraid, and these empty suits can't make me be afraid. I don't want or need their "protection" at the expense of my liberties. I want a president who respects the rule of law, who honors his oath of office, and who protects my liberties. Because he who protects our liberties protects us best.
That is why I am voting for Ron Paul, and I encourage every other freedom-loving American to do the same.
