New York City, State Push Energy Change

Dear Sir,

I very much am enjoying the series and think such a focus is timely. There is one point I would make that you might want to consider in any future writing on the subject. There is consensus view that "althernative energy" is focused on finding alternative sources of energy. Conservation, which is a secondary issue in the series, is a much less focused on topic in public discourse as well.

However, the world (especially the industrialized world) has in place an infrastructure in which trillions of dollars were invested and was built with an assumption of energy abundence that no longer holds true. The much bigger issue (and investment opportunity, for that matter) lies in the need to rebuild that infrastructure. The political and social ramifications are tremendous. For example, the DoDs imiplicit subsidy of suburbanite's penchant for large SUVs and "McMansions" will come under greater scrutiny, as will those same individuals' outsized exploitation of our envirionment through excessive CO2 emmissions. (It doesn't seem to bother anyone that the FCC auctions wireless bandwidth - a scarce public resource - why shouldn't people accept the need to charge for CO2 discharge - which uses a scarce public resource as well?) On the other hand, the potential beneficial impact of this rebuild to the US economy is tremendous. We are essentially taking preexisting spending which is being used on oil/gas/coal and redirecting it to rebuillding infrastructure which will generate jobs and invigarate the economy. The effect will be broad based and effect companies as far ranging as: Regal Beloit, Minirals Technologies, GE, Shaw Group, Modine, Borg Warner, EMC, Kennametal, Spirit Aerosystems, etc. There is a richness of detail to what is going to happen that people, such as myself, have barely scratched the surface and would warrent additional insight, such as your own.

Sincerely,

Adam Hurwich/350 E. 82nd St/New York, NY 10028/ 212 628 0163
