New Approach Needed for Arab School

Submitted by Scott Baker, Aug 15, 2007 11:41

I've been reading a pocket sized edition of the constitution lately, inclduing the part where it says the state should not seek to establish or prohibit the free exercise of religion. It's hard to imagine what this school would be, if not that. If the Education department wants to teach Arabic, fine. Let them make it an elective, like French. As anyone who's taken a foreign language class knows, you always get some cultural instruction as a bonus in a such a class. But it's hard to see how you build a school around language instruciton, so this must be something else. Like the majority of people, I do not want my tax dollars going to support enculturation in the Arab value system. There are too many reasons to list here, and others have listed them already, but this is a real folly in a society which calls itself a melting pot. Set up this school and all you'll have is a boiling pot.
