An Elvis Breakthrough

Just this week there was an article in "BusinessWeek" titled "Creating Brand You." It's about how people in the business or entertianment world should package themselves in a way to emphasize both distinctiveness and charisma. Both Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley had the vocal talent and self-confidence to become a "brand." In the case of The King, he was two brands, one of the mid-50s to mid-60s, then succeeded by another brand, of the late 60s until his alleged demise. The common thread was his incredible voice and passion for his music, framed by highly distinctive good looks. Thus his long-time popularity and ability to spawn a legion of imitators, many of them quite good ones.
