Dinner With Jim Webb

Submitted by Michael Paladin, Dec 3, 2006 08:30

It's curious that Tyrrell doesn't mention in his hit piece on James Webb that Senator-elect Webb is a Naval Academy graduate and was a platoon leader in Vietnam. Also, he might have done a little research and found out that Webb left his post as Secretary of the Navy because of irreconcilable differences with the Defense Department. He pushed for a 600 ship Navy, and they refused. Maybe, that's not a good reason to quit, but that was the reason--not that he was pushed out because he wasn't a scintillating dinner companion. He's also more than a "pretty good novelist." As a former Marine, I think "Fields of Fire" is the BEST Marine novel, even better than "Maggot."
