Hey I lived in New york for a while as a kid , i used to hear all kinds of bad things about the south, slavery, kkk etc. I joined the Navy in 1985 and guess what  I got stationed in VA in the south  and I have not looked back and will never come back to New york to live , I bought a home for $170,000 and i am paying  $1275.00 per month mortgage, I have a 3,000 sq ft home on a half acre lot with a large front lawn and huge back yard, my home has 5 bedrooms , 3.5  bathrooms central air condition, large kitchen , recessed lights, granite countertops, tiled baths,and  too many more amenities to mention  all for $1275.00 per month mortgage ,  something that I would never get in New york. What really gets to me is my relatives and friends who still live there can't see how they are wasting thier time, they see how much better I live and they grudgingly accept that New york is garbage, that is an attitude that I find to be widespread amongst a lot of New yorkers.
