If the journalism referred to by Mr. Shipman had been accurate, it would certainly have merited every award available to journalistic excellence, but it was not; and the the Congressional investigations he invokes ground to a halt long ago and exist now only in his fervid imagination, as do his excuses for black American failure. As for Mr. McWhorter's hopes for change, perhaps those in the black American population "who've got their own" can help those who have lost all hope to regain their self-respect by example and by their own sacrifice. Although it would be good to finally give up the war on drugs and allow addicts and those who wish to become addicts to be prescribed the lethal recreational drugs we now jail them for possessing, it would be wrong to try to curtail Americans' right to bear arms even further just in order to save those in the black population who would murder others and themselves with guns. Besides, the banning of guns promises to create just such another criminal market and opportunity as banned drugs do now. I have always admired Mr. McWhorter, but even Homer nods.
