With Plea, Vick Sacrifices His Career

Submitted by Mario G, Aug 21, 2007 13:37

It is amusing to see so many self-righteous condemn Michael Vick to professional football death by a thousand cuts. What Michael did was heinous in the extreme and he will pay a heavy price. However, after he has paid the price of his appallingly bad judgment, he should be re-instated into society without any ifs, ands or buts. If he has had the fortitude to maintain his conditioning and skills he should be allowed to play in the NFL again.
>
Let's face it, he has been cruel and sadistic towards defenseless animals. However, how does one compare this with similar players who have been wife beaters and drug addicts? Anyone remember Darryl Strawberry and how many chances he was given after each drug incident?
>
This is America - the land of second chances from the country's very inception. Bill Clinton was cruel and sadistic to his wife and several other women, blatantly lied to the whole country over and over again, and disgraced the office of the presidency. He paid his price and was allowed to go on with his life. Why shouldn't Michael Vick be allowed the same privilege?
>
After serving his sentence under the law, he should not be condemned to a lifetime of bowing and scraping and paying homage for the rest of his life to the politically correct animal rights zealots who are currently screaming for his head. No need to show phony remorse or anything else - serving his sentence takes care of all that.
>
Let him pay his legal price, then let him alone to make the most of the rest of his life. That would not only be compassionate but also politically correct. It would be the American way.
