When pro-life advocates cite their concern for women to argue against abortion I am always left with my jaw hanging open by their bigotry. Alicia Colon omits the fact that carrying a baby to term is at least ten times more dangerous for a woman than having an abortion. For non-hispanic black women the risk associated with term delivery is twenty times that associated with an abortion. While one in ten women giving birth will suffer major postpartum depression, abortion has absolutely no causative effect on women's mental health. Women living in countries with legal abortion also enjoy significantly better health overall than those who do not.. If you want to argue against abortion because you are concerned about the fetus, that's fine, and we can debate that. But it is reprehensbile to propagate the myth that abortion is not good for women's health when it is in fact the opposite.
