He had banned Masonry, Because first: Most of the Masons were member of Ottoman ?ttihad and terakki party and Ataturk was against that party. And also he had fear that ?ttihadists were going to overthrow him. Second is, when first time masons offered him as a great chief of Turkish Masonry, He asked that which lodge he would have been dependent and responsible to. They answered "French Great Lodge" He did not like it because he was to semi god of New Turkish republic. From that position to be a dependant of some unknown groups would have not satisfied his ego. these were the reasons that he had rejected their offer and banned masonry.
