Romney's Palmetto State Peril

Submitted by Stephen Giles, Aug 24, 2007 17:50

I believe your assessment of the New Hampshire Republican Presidential Primary is way off. You claim that Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani are running even in the race for the nomination in New Hampshire. Of the last four polls done on the New Hampshire Primary, the American Research Group poll that shows Giuliani even with Mitt Romney is the anomaly. ARG did a poll in Iowa July 26-30, which supposedly showed Rudy Giuliani leading Mitt Romney 22-21%. That was out of step with the ABC poll and the Research 2000 poll, both that showed him with a double-digit lead. The credibility of ARG is most definitely in question. All of the other polls in the state of New Hampshire, Rasmussen, Hart-McLaughlin, and CNN/WMUR, show that Romney has a comfortable lead of at least 12%. New Hampshire is a state that borders Massachusetts, sharing various media markets, and because of its more conservative voting trends, Mitt Romney has the upper hand in name recognition and New England rapport with the voting base. Mitt Romney for all of the above reasons is in as good of a position to win New Hampshire as he is to win Iowa.
