Jamaica Rezoning Proposal Is Drawing Fire in Queens
in response to reader comment: Thank You

Jamaica Queens was established as an honor and respect for the multi-racial people of the island/Nation of Jamaica in the Tropical Caribbean. It was a great place to be 70 years ago. No More. The area population have been changing as well as it's great location and proximity to Manhattan. It has been targeted for Urban Re-development since I last worked for the City of New York as an Urban Planning & Design expert consultant in 1968. I am totally aghast that it has taken NYC almost 40 years to put together a very sensible and a real good plan for Jamaica Queens. I have read the Zoning changes that are proposed and they are Physically logical Socially acceptable and economically variable. What I missed in the document is a complete environmental analysis/impacts. and citizen participation in the design process. Let us all please remember that zoning is not planning. it is only the police power of the respective authority under whose jurisdiction it happens to be. Let us also remember that zoning resolutions can be challenged in court. I hope that the NYC approve the plan and an investment of 15B would be actualized.
