Thank you for this well-written and timely article. While I'm thrilled that the company is making such a terrific effort with Danielpour's opera, I'm still surprised that at this late date whenever mention arises of operas that depict the African-American experience or the perceived dearth of operatic material depicting people of African descent, the seminal work of William Grant Still fails to be noticed. His operas all depict some aspect of the experiences of African-Americans and the African Diaspora, yet still lie in neglect. They are not historical curiosities, but vital, dramatic works. I urge the company to extend its vision in this regard and consider mounting Troubled Island, Mota or A Bayou Legend. Anyone interested in further info may feel free to contact me.
