Adopting a ‘Brangelina' Standard

Submitted by Gaye, Aug 28, 2007 14:55

Thank you for keeping the quest for open records in the news. The secrecy has gone on long enough and those who oppose open records are counting on the pro-life movement to support their claim that open records will cause more abortions. They continue spreading this tale despite evidence to the contrary.

Part of their misinformation is that birthmothers who have "moved on with their lives" will now have their out-of-wedlock pregnancy made public. Nobody is asking that the birth certificates of adults adopted as children be given to anyone other than the adopted person - that is the same right non-adopted people have - the right to their own unaltered birth certificates.

As an added insult, US Passport Services does not accept an amended birth certificate if it was filed more than a year after the birth - and many of them were as it was common in the 1950s and 1960s to have the child placed with the adoptive parents for at least 12 months before the adoption was finalized.
