Adopting a ‘Brangelina' Standard

Submitted by Hope A. Catricala, Aug 28, 2007 15:56

Good Luck to the officals of Florida trying to get those records unsealed. Far to many adult adoptees have gone to court for severe medical reasons to have their records unsealed and as far as I know only 1 succeed. New York State Courts have not honored the medical need nor the personal right of the adult adoptee to unseal their records.

The "Bill of Adoptees Rights" legislation A2277/S235 has been before the Assembly and Senate of NY for coming up on 15 years and neither house has moved to see this legislation heard. Adult Adoptees born or adopted in NY have never had any say in what happens to them. Their medical needs, their personal needs have never been adjusted for within the laws of NY. There is a group "New York Statewide Adoption Reform" under the guide of UnsealedInitative to see this legislation get heard and passed so that Adult adoptees can finally be first class citizens within NY law.

This article is exactly why NY needs Open Records and Open Adoptions.
