"These kinds of speech regulations are straight out of Orwell." Indeed. These laws have been crafted by the wealthy and powerful for the express purpose of wielding wealth and power under the guise of fairness.

Scrap all campaign finance laws except one that would require full disclosure of all sources of campaign funds. Maybe then the candidates would not have to spend the lion's share of their time begging for dollars and could actually talk substantively about the issues. If a candidate cannot attract support with his or her ideas, no amount of money will suffice to purchase the office. Except under our current punitive system.
