Yesterday, we said goobye to St. Vincent's Midtown, "The Little Hospital That Could". I work for FDNY EMS, stationed at Bellevue. Though many of my co-workers opinions differ, I for one liked going there. Sure, sometimes there was a wait involved to be triaged, but such is the nature of being a small hospital in a busy area. It was so conveniently located in Hell's Kitchen, and always saved me a trip to Roosevelt Hospital, which had a tendency to ignore us when we went there. The staff there was always top-notch, and was always sympathetic to the patient's condition. They fought tooth-and-nail to stay open. I will never forget any of them. I will particulary miss the ambulances that hospital ran. As if Manhattan EMS units aren't stretched thin enough! It's a tragedy that such a hard-working hospital is now closed forever thanks to some politicians who had no idea what that place went through everyday.
