Closing Six Hospitals To Be Sought in the City
in response to reader comment: Closure of St Vincent's Midtown Hospital

Submitted by Ms. S. Bologna, Sep 2, 2007 22:17

As an employee of the hospital and a service to the community on the NYC EMS 911 Ambulance which had been provided by the hospital, I was asked of days before the actual closure which had taken place this past Friday, August 31, by confused and concerned neighbors if it was to actually occur. Late in the evening the hospital prepared for closure and by midnight, she no longer was a service to the community for which people came to for their medical care, their AIDS related illness, detoxification from poly substance abuse and other points of care for an illness of injury. On this day, as one passed the hospital, now only to see windows being boarded up and doors locked and secured are only left with a horrible situation of where they would go next for their treatment. Care was provided to not only the New Yoker but to tourists and cruise line passengers. Construction in NYC is not in the form a horizontal build but is built in a vertical fashion, adding more human beings in a confined space then a horizontal Emergency Room can hold safely and comfortably. There is a certain ratio of patients' to Nurse/Doctor and when this is compromised there will be ones demise as an end result.
