While I would not wish to count Senator McCain out in his efforts to gain the nomination, I think his inability to manage a campaign team suggest he might not be able to manage a country either. In fact, the weakness of almost all U.S. Senators is that they have no experience managing anything more than an election campaign and an office staff. This is the reason that former Vice-President Nixon, former Governor Carter, former Governor Reagan, former Vice-President Bush, former Governor Clinton, and former Governor Bush have been elected President.

Beyond that, however, while Senator McCain comes from a distinguished military family, I doubt there is anything in his background that suggests he could extract the United States from the Iraqi quagmire. If we are to be well-led as a country, we will need experience and intelligence. It concerned me that George Bush and John Kerry were both "C+" students at Yale. It concerns me equally that John McCain graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, distinguished for heavy drinking, gambling, and fighting, and for graduating #895 in a class of 899. He may have gotten smarter, but I would rather see Astronaut Bruce McCandless made President -- he was #2 in McCain's graduating class.

The weakness of our country is due in part to the fact that we choose people for likability rather than for capability.
