Teenagers' Postings on MySpace.com Raise Eyebrows of Parents, Schools

Thank you for addressing this issue. I was strongley oppossed to the creation of a myspace account for my 13 year old daughter for a long time. After her constant nagging and whining about being the ONLY kid in school without a myspace account, I gave in. We agreed that I would have access to her account and would check her space at my discrection. The lies, sexually exclicit photos, sexual undertones are not what I want to expose my child to. I feel that she is beginning to go through that rebellous phase and instead of monitoring the account I will just close it all together. She has not potrayed herself in a negative way but some of the friends on her page are not the kind of friends I'd like her to have.

Forget about sensoring and restrictions. Just don't allow our children to engage in activity that will invite negative behaviour and inappropraite language before they are mature enough to handle the consequences. Being 30 years old and single, I have to be very careful about the associations I make with men. As grown as I am I too can be sexually abused, harrassed, raped or inappropriatley propositioned if I am not smart about the decisions I make. Our teenagers are not ready to deal with these kind of issues, no matter how much they believe they might be.
