Rookie of the Year Races Not What Was Expected
in response to reader comment: Yunel Escobar

I have to agree, he has consistently played excellent ball - both defence and offence - and despite being moved around and sat down!

If he was with any other team he would be playing regular shortstop or 2nd - but the Braves have a problem most managers wish they had - three top 10 position players for two spots!

Edgar Renteria was playing a career year before his ankle injury and don't forget that the Braves have a player at 2nd Base - Kelly Johnson) - that had NEVER played at that position before and he has been in the top three performers at that position (his RF and ZR ratings while good, seem low and should only improve).

So Yunel - a legitimate ROTY at SS OR 2nd has been behind two excellent players. Bobby's solution of platooning has badly damaged Yunel's chance. I'd have preferred to see Yunel play more at 3B instead of Deadwood (oops Woodward).
