Darker Secrets of the Hermit Kingdom

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Yokotas, I have begun reading Philip Yancey's book on prayer when I came across the story of your daughter, Megumi. I have been and will continue to pray for both you and for her. I had an unusual fear of kidnapping when my first born child was very young. I felt I could endure terminal illness, accident and injury, but not kidnapping. The child's heart and mind is far more precious than the physical life. I read of your plight last night, hours before bedtime, and have wakened several times praying for her and for you. I have no doubt that your tears will be wiped away. I do not know if that will be in this lifetime or the next, and I can't really imagine how He will do this. Please know that I am praying for you and that you will one day hold your daughter's dear face in your hands before you, in heaven certainly, but on earth as well. I was going to send to you a verse to encourage you, but it might have seemed like preaching, so I cannot do it. Please know your broken heart has become mine and I am begging God for mercy on your behalf. Please accept my love for yourselves and for your daughter. Mary Bertram
