NYU, Brooklyn Polytechnic Merger Talks To Resume

Submitted by Rebecca - LI Poly Grad, Sep 6, 2007 20:28

I went to the Long Island campus of Polytechnic University in the 1990's... and my campus was since "consolidated" into Brooklyn. The site of my school is now occupied by a Wal-Mart.

Now, I find out that even the Brooklyn campus will no longer be Polytechnic University? And worse, I can't say I went to a campus of NYU, to maintain some kind of name recognition? I can see it now- someone Googles my education experience from my resume, and comes up with "school doesn't exist." Talk about a no-win situation! It is embarassing to say I went to Poly.

Do NOT believe it when President Sexton says the campus won't be moved from Downtown Brooklyn. Poly President Chang said in 1999 that the Farmingdale campus would always remain. Since it's now a Wal Mart, I guess he was lying.

I wasn't the first in my family to go to college (despite the prevailing current student demographics) - I actually come from a long line of smart, hardworking people who value education and went to college. It's too bad my former school is represented by people who don't care about me or my fellow alums.
