Clash Of Evils

Submitted by We were fortunate, Sep 10, 2007 09:39

Keep in mind, as even Churchill noted after the war, that the USSR did the bulk of the fighting against Hitler's Germany and its allies. Our alliance with the USSR was an alliance of convenience, not an alliance of conviction. That makes all the difference in the world. Stalin's USSR was a horrific and capricious place, with untold innocent millions dying in the holocaust of the gulag, despite the denials of some who either minimize the numbers or makes excuses for their extermination. Still, without the brutal discipline of the USSR in the way it fought the war, the war could have been lost. In conclusion, we were very fortunate to have had the USSR on our side against Hitler and we were very fortunate to have it, with its inability to deal with the free flow of information and the computer age, as our foe in the Cold War.
