I grant you the fact that Ron Paul is attracting a huge base of otherwise disaffected people. Perhaps it is because he speaks of the things that us 'normal' people talk about. High taxes, a government that doesn't seem to represent us, corruption and a general sense that we are no longer served by either party.
For the reocrd, Ron Paul has said that we were attacked on 9/11 by terrorists, but that our government intelligence agencies dropped the ball and ignored the warnings. He also quotes the 9/11 comission report to back up the blowback position he took with Rudy. Please do not associate him with the extreme position that our own government did it to start a war for oil, because he never said or supported such a notion at all.
There are large numbers of us Ron Paul supporters who are not whackjobs. I myself am a 47 year old republican who feels that a neo-conservative movement has hijacked my party and made a mess of foreign policy. There are lots of democrats who do not feel that they were heard in 2006 when the democrats won a majority, yet failed to execute their promise of ending the war quickly.
For the most part, I think that Ron Paul is popular because he is truly different. He speaks to us not at us. He is educated and is willing to educate anyone who will listen. He comes across as honest, fearless, truthful, just what America needs now. He understands our monetary policy and how it has been placed in the hands of a chosen few who own the federal reserve. This in conjunction with an IRS is used to extort your money and it is redistributed at a federal level where we the people seem to have less say than special interests and corporations.
We see it, the rest of the candidates on either side do not. We are awake and the parties are sleeping. We demand change, we demand our government back, and we are going to take it back one way or another. Candidates who don't listen, on either side are no longer going to have to worry about term limits because it is going to be very difficult to stay in office if you don't listen to the people.
There is a quiet revolution starting and it is much bigger than Ron Paul. He has sparked it and it is not going to stop whether or not he is elected president. Enough is enough, it't time to clean house on a wholesale scale. 'We the people' demand it.
