College Town Like No Other Is Set To Welcome Freshmen

Dear Ms. Karni: Your grandfather, Sid Shapiro, and I went to high school together and have remained in touch. He sent me your article which I enjoyed reading, particularly you reference to City College. How times have changed ! When I entered CCNY, in 1943, there was no orientation, not to mention a barbecue, and noone told us what to read, except the English professors. But I suspect that CCNY is a different school altogether from the one I remember. It was a much smaller school, with poor lab facilities (I also became an electrical engineer), very good students (you needed an A average in high school for admission), and many not-so- good professors. And many campus politicians of leftist persuasios. (That may not have changed). If you ever need information about CCNY , as it was in the 1940s, I'llbe glad to tell you what I remember. In the meantime, keep up your good work. Kurt Moses
